Curly Que

I am watching the Olympics - what's up with this weird sport called Curling? It's like a bunch of dudes mopping at the ice. Very strange... It begs a whole host of questions. For example:

How does one aspire to be a Curler?
Why would one aspire to be a curler?
Do they have a professional curling league?

1) you have to live in northern states with a tradition of curling, such as minnesota, north dakota, or maine. however, because NYC has everything, i'm sure they have a curling club somewheres.
2) curling is actually akin to rowing and polo, in that it has a lot of tradition and history behind it. curling clubs, like the one i have been to in colebrook, connecticut have a deeply rooted history. therefore, in growing up with curling, you aspire to be one.

and curling is essential darts on ice with brooms. so it is safer than playing around with all of those needles.

Have you tried broomball? Much more fun than curling for the less accurate of us, and as with curling you don't need to know how to skate. It is not an Olympic sport by any means, but is available for groups at most ice rinks. Basically you run around on the ice with stick things and try to hit a ball in a goal. (helmets are required and a few drinks are recommended)
